Pest & Predators, Ep. 1:
Do you know your field heroes?
There was a time when many people thought of field insects like weeds — all bad. Weeds steal yield, so we try to eliminate all or mostly all of those weeds. Now through many years of research, the way we look at insects in a crop has begun to shift away from this all-bad, all-must-go kind of thinking.
Farm Sustainability Readiness Tool
Click Here To Start Using This Tool
Farm Sustainability Readiness Tool provides farmers with information and resources to support farm-level sustainability decisions.
It was developed by a working group of four crop commissions, Alberta Barley, Alberta Canola, Alberta Pulse Growers and the Alberta Wheat Commission, in conjunction with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry. The tool was produced in partnership with Groupe AGÉCO, a consulting firm specialized in economic studies and corporate social responsibility with in-depth knowledge of the Canadian agriculture sector.
Farm Sustainability Readiness Tool is brought to you by:

What is Integrated Pest Management (IPM)?
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an important catchphrase in agriculture today. While the mechanics of the concept are often talked about at workshops and lectures, many producers still do not understand exactly what IPM is. These same producers may be surprised to learn that to some extent, they are already using IPM and with a little coaching, they could maximize its potential for their real benefit.
According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), IPM is “an ecosystem approach to crop production and protection that combines different management strategies and practices to grow healthy crops and minimize the use of pesticides.” read more…

Time-lapse Videos Help Farmers Identify Signs of Herbicide Resistance
Ohio State University has created a set of time-lapse videos to show weeds slowly dying after herbicide treatment with different Modes of Action. Every second in the video represents one hour in real time. You can compare your crop scouting to these videos to look for signs of resistance or poor efficacy. For the complete series of videos click here.
