Canadian Agriculture Partnership (CAP)

The Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) is a five-year, $3 billion federal-provincial-territorial initiative aimed at generating economic growth in the agricultural sector and delivering the greatest benefits for farmers, food processors and Canadian families. CAP is in effect from April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2023. CARA staff try hard to update this list as soon as announcements are made, however for the most up to date information be sure you visit www.cap.alberta.ca & SUBSCRIBE to their announcements.

PRODUCERS GRANTS

FARM TECHNOLOGY

The Farm Technology Program supports producers in protecting their business by encouraging the adoption of best management practices in farm technology and security. Eligible expenses include; Electronic livestock ID readers, Electronic soil sensors, Farm equipment-mounted sensors and cables, GPS Equipment Tracker, Remote Monitoring Cameras, Remote Fuel Tank Monitors, Wireless Base Stations (Gateways), Motion Detectors & Driveway Alert Systems and Door Sensors

Eligible expenses will be costs shared at 50% grant and 50% applicant up to the following maximums

AGRICULTURE TRAINING SUPPORT

This program is to provide support to the agricultural and horticultural businesses and services to help address the impact of COVID-19. The program will provide a grant to eligible employers to offset the costs of training and ensuring safety protocols are in place for new employees hired from the available domestic labour pool.

WATER

Funded projects include new well construction, decommissioning, spring development, dams, pumphouse, off-source watering systems, fencing and more!

Eligible expenses will be cost-shared at 25% grant and 75% applicant, except for special incentives at 50% grant and 50% applicant

Long Term Water Management Plan  (LTWMP) is required before the project is started.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP & CLIMATE CHANGE (CLOSED)

Funded projects include riparian area fencing, year round/summer watering systems, improved pesticide/ nutrient management, plastic roller and more!

An application must be submitted before the project has started. A valid Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) is required before the project is rembuired. A valid EFP can be no older than 10 years since the approval date.

IRRIGATION EFFICIENCY (CLOSED)

Funded projects include upgrading existing irrigation system to a surface drip system, equipment upgrades, retrofit of a high-pressure center pivot to a low-pressure center pivot, variable rate irrigation equipment and more!

PRODUCTS TO MARKETS (Small Projects) (CLOSED)

The purpose of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership Products to Markets –Small Projects Program is to support growth of Alberta’s agricultural industries by supporting the development of New Products and/or Processes, commercialization of products in New Markets, and expansion into local, domestic and international markets.

VALUE-ADDED PRODUCTS TO MARKET (Large projects) (CLOSED)

The purpose of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership Value-Added Products to Markets – Large Projects Program is to support growth of Alberta’s value-added Food Processors and Bio-Industrial Processors. The Program targets Projects that enable growth of their businesses through increased sales related to the development of New Products, adoption of state-of-the-art processes, commercialization of products in New Markets, and expansion of their business in local, domestic and international markets.

INDUSTRY ORGANIZATIONS GRANTS

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP & CLIMATE CHANGEgroup

Activities funded by this program will help develop the industry to protect or improve water quality and soil health, to position itself for success in a low-carbon economy, and to adapt operations to climate change.

AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES

This program will support industry associations and industry-led non-profit assurance initiatives to develop and enhance sustainability certification or assurance systems to demonstrate to the public the quality, safety and sustainability of products produced by producers and food companies.

PUBLIC AGRICULTURE LITERACY 

This program supports initiatives that build industry communication capacity to increase public and consumers’ awareness and understanding of agriculture and the food production system.

YOUTH AGRICULTURE EDUCATION

The program stream supports the development and delivery of effective agriculture education programs that are science-based, topic-driven, curricular-linked and help students use critical thinking to engage in meaningful and informed conversations about issues that affect public trust in agriculture.
